I Might Be An Actual Old Person

Howdy!

In between writing, reading, some actual studying, and Christmas decorating, I’ve started a new project. My grandmother cross stitched all of us kids Christmas stockings. I think they’re some of our favorite decorations.

She passed away about 6 years ago and now that two of my siblings are married and having kids, we started talking about stockings at Thanksgiving. My sister who’s the super crafty, awesome sewing person said she didn’t really want to, so I got to thinking.

I used to do some counted cross stitch and needlepoint back in the day. I’ve also thought about taking over stocking duty before. So I started looking up stocking patterns and found some really cute ones. I opened my mouth and said I’d try. I got a pattern and started this past weekend. It’s not difficult, just kind of time consuming. And I’m pretty sure I still don’t know what I’ve gotten myself into. I’m working on one for my niece. And if it all works out, her brother will need one. And I have an impending nephew that will be requiring a stocking as well. It’s a good thing I’m a loving aunt. Haha!! But really, I’ve kind of enjoyed getting back into the embroidery. I’ll definitely need help with the sewing everything together part. Sewing machines and I don’t really jive.

But yeah, I feel like I need to start drinking tea and coffee and making even more cracks about youths and “back in my day”. 😛

All joking aside, it does make me think about my Grandma and how I’d love to be able to ask her a few questions about embroidery and just kind of be able to hang out with her again.

So maybe as I go along I’ll share some pictures of the Great Cross Stitch Endeavor.

Do you have a favorite Christmas decoration? Any fun crafty things you like to do?

    • Thankyouuuuuu!!! 🙂

I occasionally crochet, but it’s been several years. This is the first crafty thing I’ve done in a long time. I had to go into the storage shed and dig out my sewing box, that’s how long it’s been. 😛

  1. Awesome…looking forward to pictures. I have been working on a stocking for Genevieve for about 4 months and hoping to finally finish it today. Then I will take a short break and start on baby Matthew’s. I’m glad I know someone else now that does cross stitch stockings lol.

  2. I am not very crafty at all… sadly. I do piece together quilt-tops, but by machine, and only like one every 5 years or so. LOL And hooded towels for baby showers. But that’s the extent of my ability to make things.

Good luck with the stocking project, sounds like it will keep you busy for a while! Hopefully it’s a nice, relaxing sort of busy 🙂

  3. We have started building extravagant wooden houses out of Popsicle sticks. Like, 2 stories, front porches, windows and doors. We paint ’em up and fill their windows, ledges etc with holiday items. We have a the beginnings of a whole village!

  4. Never tried knitting anything before, unless you count a frumpy half done scarf. 🙂 I wish you the best with this endeavor though and can’t wait to see how the stockings turn out! You’re a fun aunt to those kids!
