Looking Back

Howdy!

I think we can all agree that we’re tired of hearing about what a crap year 2016 was. Honestly, it went by waay to fast for my liking. I feel like I was just doing this for 2015…

But 2016 wasn’t all bad. There were definitely ups and downs, but it was another year to live and try and figure out this crazy road map of life. So here goes a recap on 2016 in which I…

Finished…

the class room portion of my degree! There were some tough spots this spring and summer semester. I had a few panic attacks and at least one meltdown after a particularly trying practical exam. But it all worked out and I made it through. ๐Ÿ™‚ ย I also finished my first two clinical rotations. I got a month off and will be heading back out to the clinic in about a week. And then graduation in 5 months. :O

Went to…

Two comic cons! One locally in Midland in March at which I met some previous customers who came back for another book, and met some new readers. I traveled solo across Texas in May to Houston (8 hr car trip) for the Houston Con. I did well there, not as well as I would have liked, but still a good experience. Also attended a Writer’s Workshop in Midland (that I was on the committee to organize) in September. I pitched for the first time (and didn’t do awful!) and walked away with some fresh ideas and enthusiasm for writing!

Met…

Some authors/publishers that I helped convince to come down to present to the Writer’s Conference. Amy Williams and Katie Morford are awesome people and I enjoyed getting to hang out with them and fangirl about their books to! In November I got to meet some fellow homeschool authors and blogger friends! It was so much fun to finally get to meet online friends and just talk about writing and random stuff for an afternoon. ๐Ÿ™‚

Read…

According to Goodreads, I read 61 books this year! You can see my reading challenge HERE if you so desire. ๐Ÿ™‚ The actual tally is a few more than that taking into account some beta reading I did.

Published…

Adela’s Curseย made it’s debut back in February! It’s my third published book (the first one I’ve independently published) and the first in a new series!

Wrote…

A bunch of different stuff. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve yet to finish any WIP this year, but I did make good progress onย The Mountain Baron (even after deleting 12K words from it *cries*). I’ve almost made back that 12K and am definitely more happy with the direction it’s going. Also made some good progress onย The Wolf Prince – The Faeries of Myrnius Book 2 recently. You can read snippets and stuff HERE.ย Worldjumpersย is also getting a makeover. After I pitched it in September, I basically realized how much work it needed and it was waay to short for the publisher’s standards, so I brainstormed and have started to get it closer to what I originally envisioned. It took like two weeks to add almost 15K to it. It’s on hold for the moment as I work on the previous WIPs mentioned.

There’s a generalized review of 2016. I’m sure there’s stuff I missed, but that’s the big stuff I remember. So what’s on the agenda for 2017?

Hopefully finish and publishย The Wolf Prince. Finish my other WIPs so I can finally start one of the other million and one projects I have waiting. ๐Ÿ™‚ And finish up the first story arc of Children of Two Worlds. I’m really close to finishing it and then it will probably be placed on hold for an indefinite amount of time while I try and figure out what to do next. ๐Ÿ™‚

Graduate! 5. Months. To. Go. Two more clinicals to go and then I walk the stage in May. Then I study all summer long and take my licensure exam and then hopefully pass and become a licensed PT! And then decide where I want to work. ๐Ÿ˜›

So most of 2017 will still include studying, then probably moving somewhere to start a new job, and still trying to find time to write. I also really want to go to Realm Makers next year!!

How was your 2016?? What big and glorious plans do you have for 2017??

  1. 5 months to go and you graduate, that’s awesome and exciting!!! Can’t wait to see where you go from there, so many opportunities!
And ugh, yes 2016 had some harsh unpleasant times. Lets hope for the best with 2017.
My goal is to polish up my final draft and publish it this year. ๐Ÿ™‚ I’d also like to improve at drawing and illustrating, and start doing something like Tai Chi!

    • It is exciting and slightly scary because it means the real world. ๐Ÿ˜›

Yay for getting final drafts done! Can’t wait for you to publish. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ll be staying with my oldest sister for a few months while I’m on a clinical rotation and we’ve talked about getting back into yoga. Tai Chi would be awesome.
