Espionage – Blog Tour & Review

Howdy!

This week is a week for blog tours, which are always exciting! Today I’m hosting Morgan Huneke’s newest release and leaving a review. Make sure you read all the way to the end as there is a giveaway!

Today is the first day of the blog tour, but don’t miss the other posts. Check out the full schedule HERE.

Here’s a little info about the book before we get started.

Espionage Cover“Sir Roland has invited us to visit for the Autumn Feast.”

“Do we have to go, Papa? I couldn’t feast with the most crooked politician in all of Briznom.”

As the daughter of a Briznomian vassal lord, Vannie Cumberland has spent her childhood immersed in the world of politics. Relations between Briznom and the neighboring country of Calhortz are strained due to the tyrannical rule of the strytes. A proposed alliance could calm relations between the two countries, but would come at the cost of Briznom’s freedom.

When her father’s political archenemy invites them to the Autumn Feast, Vannie uncovers an evil scheme endangering the life of someone close to her. Personal enmity comes to a dangerous head as Vannie struggles to expose the corruption and stop the alliance. Time is running out.

My Review!

4/5 stars

Espionage is an exciting novella that takes place pretty much concurrently with the events of the Time Captives series. It gives you a deeper look into the world that Ms. Huneke has constructed and gets a chance to delve into the politics.

The story centers around 9 year old Vannie and her family as they travel to another lord’s castle for the Autumn Feast. Vannie doesn’t trust this noble and takes it upon herself to try and figure out what he’s up to.

While the book isn’t long, it’s full of suspense and some action. I kept flipping pages to figure out how everything would finally resolve. The characters were all great and I especially like the friendship that developed between Vannie and Kyle. Vannie is precocious and opinionated but is willing to admit that she’s afraid or doesn’t know something. I also really loved her relationship with her family, especially her father. Kyle was an interesting character, coming in with some sad backstory. I just wanted to give the kid a hug. It was definitely different and fun to see a plot carried by two very young children, but I think they performed admirably.

It’s been some time since I read the first Time Captives book and there were a few gaps in my memory concerning the story and the world, it either wasn’t enough to detract from the story or was addressed in the book, bringing me back up to speed. If you’ve read the Time Captives series, then you will probably enjoy this book and its hopeful successors. Because honestly, I want to know more about Kyle and Vannie. 🙂

This book and the series that inspired it are great Middle Grade reads and perfect for anyone who loves adventure and stories of faith and family.
